Walking and capturing Telšiai

On the summer of 2023, I had an opportunity to visit Telšiai and have a summer practice there. Telšiai is a small yet very old town in Northwestern Lithuania (probably dating earlier than the 14th century; between the 15th and 20th centuries, Telšiai became a district capital).

During my practice in Telšiai, I had the ambition to understand and get to know Telšiai, remembering that all movement, except walking and running, is time travel for human beings (according to the doctoral dissertation of Vitalij Červiakov). Walking, observing, listening and exploring, I discovered them with their open hearts, doors and gates, I discovered them in synthetic coexistence with nature and peace. At the same time, it was interesting to observe the repetitive paths, the overlapping of the roads, the changing shape of the map. In two weeks, I walked about 120 kilometres.

Street-twins

In Telšiai I`ve noticed that Telšiai and Vilnius have streets that share same names. I counted 107 such streets. I have chosen some streets that interested me by their names, sometimes just some accidental streets. I wanted to observe the differences and similarities of the streets, to compare them, so I chose double-exposure to express it.

I explored to what extent randomly collected objects, plants, stones can reflect a space, a feeling. By holding objects for long periods of time on photographic paper, I paid special attention to them, I gave them time, the objects became longer random.
